When making a final review of the 2010 Malawi newspapers and associations defending the rights of children express their concern for them. According to the Declaration of the Rights of children are considered under this name to anyone under 18 years.
These children are abused by society, parents and family. Newspapers have brought to light many of the abuses against children. The girls are forced by parents to marry because of poverty and some already are forced to marry at the tender age of 13. Another abuse is that some parents refuse the right to their children receiving medication because of religious beliefs. This pain is still latent in the minds of people because a number of children were exposed to great risks for this reason. Cases of rape were also reported by the press.
Despite government efforts many children do work in large farms at an early age and unprotected, this is because there is no labor law and their rights. There are no contracts for workers on farms so that children are not protected. One just has to dream that some day bill passed in Parliament. However
must say that in matters of Children's National Assembly passed a law to protect children and that at least those who abuse them to pay for it. There is still much to do to make the law effective. But that is a great source of hope and we must continue working tirelessly.
