southwest wind or llebeig

The Llebeig or Garbi is the name of the southwest wind. At Valencia called llebeig except in Alicante which is known as garbinet , while further north it is called Garbi. By origin, carries much sand and fine dust in suspension from the Sahara Desert .

The llebeig occurs as a result of storms moving the Mediterranean south from west to east, this movement causes the movement of tropical air masses, warm, dry and Sahara dust cover until southeast of the Iberian Peninsula .

llebeig is usually anticipated by the haze (warm mist) that appears on the horizon to the south. The characteristic color of the haze is caused by the large amount of African dust carried.

The appearance of this wind heralds the arrival of the depression that often originates and comes with heavy rains.
