The east wind is the name which usually refers to wind from the east on the Mediterranean coast of Spain and, in general, throughout the western Mediterranean.
The wind rises in the central Mediterranean and in the vicinity of the Balearic Islands and reaches its highest speed to cross the Gibraltar Strait. The wind brings clouds and rain to the east side of the Rock of Gibraltar but causes dry weather in the western side of the Strait, especially on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia. This peculiarity makes them well known to local people that they associate it with hot or windy weather. However, in Gibraltar generates particular cloud formations on the Rock. Levante winds may occur at any time of year but are most common from May to October. Its intensity can be very variable but can be very high, precluding Vessels in the exit port of Algeciras.
